How Do I Make Google Chrome My Default Browser?

I have windows vista on google chrome i go to options~ basics the i press set google chrome as my default browser it wont let me what do i do.

1] Next to the long bar where you put a web address, there’s 2 icons. Click the one furthest from it (spanner/wrench) and select “Options”.
2] Under “Basics”, click the large button at the bottom of the window.
